MSc in Finance & Risk supported by Barrie & Hibbert

Last updated 19th March 2009 - Barrie & Hibbert is delighted to be supporting the new MSc in Finance & Risk in association with Edinburgh University.

Risk Management has never been more relevant globally.

Financial markets are complex systems, where decisions taken today can have significant effects far into the future. Effective capital management can create opportunities, yet, rarely eliminates risk. Management should, therefore, ensure that risk exposures are well understood and priced. To achieve all this requires an analytical framework; one that allows the combination of effective management, economic calibration and sound risk analysis.

The MSc in Finance & Risk will teach students the theory behind the measurement and management of economic and risk capital and, students will get to use the Barrie & Hibbert Economic Scenario Generator (ESG) to demonstrate the practical implications associated with the understanding of market risk.

The Barrie & Hibbert ESG has been developed over 13 years with more than 100 man years of effort. It is the leading stochastic asset and economic model engine that powers the extensive range of products and services offered by Barrie & Hibbert - products and services that underpin objective analysis and decision-making throughout the global financial services industry, opening excellent employment opportunities for graduates from the programme.

Barrie & Hibbert has a long-standing relationship with Edinburgh University and supports a number of dissertation students within the head office in Edinburgh. Dr Gavin Kretzschmar, a Chartered Accountant, is the University Director of the MSc in Finance and Risk and also serves on the research panel of Barrie and Hibbert, a link that facilitates student exposure to leading edge research topics as part of their compulsory dissertations.

Andy Frepp, Sales & Marketing Director at Barrie & Hibbert is delighted to be associated with the MSc in Finance & Risk: "The global financial services industry faces an unprecedented challenge in a highly competitive, complex and politically-charged market.
